What to check on a used source or streamer

Player or transport?

Check whether the unit has the analogue output you need or requires an external DAC. For disc players, confirm the supported disc formats on the exact model; CD support alone is not a promise of SACD playback.

Disc mechanism and included controls

Read the loading, reading and playback observations that were actually checked. Inspect tray or lid condition, controls and the included remote. A basic playback check is not a guarantee that every disc format or damaged disc will work.

Network, app and regional requirements

For network equipment, confirm the connection method, firmware, required control app and account or service requirements before purchase. Check mains voltage and the supplied power adapter. Streaming-service compatibility should not be assumed from an old specification sheet.
